Senior consultant currently working in private practice based at the Cromwell Hospital and London Medical. His areas of specialism are HIV and genitourinary medicine along with acute and chronic sexually transmitted infections and genital dermatology. Specialities Include:
- Acute and chronic genital infections
- Sexual Dysfunction
- Chlamydial and mycoplasma genitalium infections
- HIV disease management including pre and post exposure prophylaxis (PREP and PEP)
- Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STD’s)

About Dr Hawkins
Dr Hawkins qualified in Medicine in 1977 at University College Hospital Medical School with Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degrees. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 1994.
Over the last three decades, he has been a member of various Department of Health Committees including the Expert Advisory Group on AIDS (EAGA). In 2015 he was elected Deputy Chair of the UK Advisory Panel on the management of HIV and Hepatitis B and C infected healthcare workers.
NHS and Academic Posts
Dr Hawkins is now retired from the NHS and only work privately. Formerly he was a Senior Consultant at a large GU/HIV Medicine Department based at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.
His professional memberships include British Association for Sexual Health and HIV (BASHH), British HIV Association (BHIVA), Expert Advisory Group on AIDS (EAGA).
Dr Hawkins has published over a 120 peer-reviewed papers, authored several book chapters and an atlas of sexually transmitted infections. He has organised, taught, and examined fellow practitioners over a broad range of subjects associated with sexual health.
