Wellwoman Screening

The emphasis in healthcare has moved focus to prevention and wellbeing.

A full understanding of available screening tests ensures that women are empowered, from adolescence to menopause, to be active participants in their wellbeing. We offer a variety of screening packages using advanced techniques and technology for accurate and rapid results.

Wellwoman Screening
A selection of our Wellwoman screening options are listed below.

Adolescence
Human Pailloma Virus (HPV) vaccination provides protection against cervical cancer and genital warts. Ideally this is given prior to being sexually active to girls aged 12-13, but can be given later provided there is cervical screening first to ensure HPV is not already present.

Twenty-Thirty Something
Sexual health screening tests are recommended if sexually active. A different combination of tests can be undertaken here -vaginal or cervical swabs, blood tests, checking for chlamydia (dubbed the silent disease), checking for BV (bacterial vaginosis, associated with a mildly offensive vaginal discharge or simple thrush). Herpes or HIV screening can be piggy-backed onto these tests if required. Early diagnosis of infections will help avoid longer term problems.

Preconception
If about to start a family, it is worth having screening tests to ensure all is well and good to go. Rubella and Toxoplasma combined with infection screen, and hormonal tests or scan if required. Fertiliy tests for ovarian ageing, including anti-mullerian hormone (AMH).

Cervical Screening (for all ages)
This is the most important screening test now to prevent cervical cancer. A smear test combined with HPV testing for improved accuracy should be undertaken regularly in all women from 18 onwards (or earlier if sexually active).

Forty Something & Over
Ovarian screening should be considered especially with a family history of ovarian cancer. This includes a blood test CA 125 and scan.

Make An Appointment

To ask a question, make an enquiry or book an appointment, contact our specialist team who are available Monday – Friday 8am – 6pm. Our London Medical team have a dedicated and caring approach and will seek to find you the earliest appointment possible with the correct specialist for your needs.

If you are self-paying you don’t need a referral from your GP. You can simply refer yourself and book an appointment.

If you have medical insurance (e.g. Bupa, Axa PPP, Aviva), you will need to contact your insurer to get authorisation for any treatment and, in most cases, you will require a referral letter from your GP.

If you do not have a GP, then we have an in-house private GP practice that you can use. Alternatively we can suggest the most appropriate course of action for you to take, given your location and individual circumstance.

We know there is much to think about when choosing a gynaecological healthcare provider, including how much it’s going to cost. We do everything in our power to keep our fees as low as possible all the while ensuring the best possible treatment.

Notes

Patients with UK Health insurance are guaranteed to have no shortfall apart from excesses or exemptions.

In response to requests from our patients, who have indicated that they prefer a targeted, consultant led screening programme instead of the more routinely available general, ‘BUPA – style’ health screening, we have developed a one stop comprehensive combined breast and gynaecological review.

Mr Mahantesh Karoshi a Consultant Gynaecologist leads the service.

The programme costs £675 and comprises:

  • Consultation and review with Mr Karoshi
  • Cervical smear and HPV screening
  • Bilateral mammogram
  • Transvaginal ultrasound
  • Ovarian cancer screening test – CA-125 levels

Other tests can be included if required or clinically indicated. For patients who have already had a mammogram, a gynaecological only review can be undertaken.

A full report of the review will be available within 48 hours once receipt of all the planned tests

Any screening abnormalities can of course be investigated with a rapid appointment with a consultant at The London Breast Clinic or a referral to the consultant of the patient’s choice.
