I have always believed that the care of people who have diabetes and kidney disease has been a neglected area within the specialty of nephrology. Over the last 10 years I have:
- worked with colleagues around the country to develop the first international guidance on the management of people with both chronic kidney disease and diabetes.
- worked with colleagues in primary care across north-west London and wider to raise the level of understanding of key principles that support the management of people with diabetes and kidney disease including the establishment a shared care programme across North West London and an electronic advice system.
- led research into better markers of kidney disease in people with diabetes as well as research into reducing the incidence of hypoglycaemia associated with the treatment of diabetes in patients with kidney disease.
I am passionate about working with patients and colleagues to reduce the huge burden of kidney disease related to diabetes.
