      About Professor Di Mario

      Professor Carlo Di Mario is a recognised authority in the field of intravascular imaging, with ultrasound, optical coherence tomography and near-infrared spectroscopy used for research and clinical guidance.

      He studied medicine and cardiology at the University of Padova in Italy, his home country. He then completed his interventional training and PhD at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. He went on to be the research and clinical director for interventional cardiology at the San Raffaele Hospital in Milan, Italy.

      In 2003, Professor Di Mario took up a specialist post at Royal Brompton & Harefield NHS Foundation Trust. Alongside that role he was Professor of Clinical Cardiology at Imperial College London.

      Since 2016, Professor Di Mario has been Chair of Cardiology at the University of Florence in Italy.

      In the last 20 years he has worked in Rotterdam, Milan and London more than 4,000 coronary angioplasties. He has pioneered the use of techniques such as intravascular ultrasound, intracoronary Doppler, intracoronary pressure measurement, embolic protection, covered and drug eluting stents in complex lesions, recanalisation of chronic total occlusion, alcohol ablation for obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, carotid and renal stenting.

      Professor Carlo Di Mario is an honorary consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals Specialist Care, where he treats private patients.

      Professor Di Mario is a visiting professor of clinical cardiology at Imperial College London.

He has led the development of the first official European training programme for interventional cardiology fellows. He is a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology, Fellow, American College of Cardiology & Fellow, Royal College of Physicians (FRCP)
