What is 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring?
24-hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring uses a small, portable device to record your blood pressure at regular intervals over a full day and night.
You’ll wear a cuff on your upper arm, which automatically inflates at set times. The cuff is connected to a monitor worn at your waist or clipped to your clothing. The device usually takes readings every 15 to 30 minutes during the day and hourly while you sleep.
Unlike a one-off reading taken in a clinic, this type of continuous monitoring helps show how your blood pressure changes throughout your normal activities. It helps capture changes that might be missed during a one-off clinic visit, offering a much clearer and more accurate picture.
