London Medical and the A6 Touchcare System

A Chinese company called Medtrum have introduced the A6 Touchcare System to the UK. We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be evaluating this tube-free sensor controlled patch pump soon.

Currently, the only sensor controlled pump is the Medtronic G640, which is not a patch pump and has a catheter. There’s no small tubeless patch pump that has the ability to suspend insulin infusion when blood glucose levels are too low.

This is all tied together with a number of exciting new patent requests submitted by Medtrum in June this year (see a personal evaluation – Diabettech, 2016) which will advance the way type 1 diabetes is managed. Even more exciting is the news that London Medical will be the first private diabetes clinic in the UK to evaluate this new pump, which we hope will be available for our patients from October 2016. At present, we offer patch pump starts for patients with type 1 diabetes using the Omnipod, the Cellnovo and now the Medtrum. Larger pumps with catheters include the Medtronic G640, the Animas Vibe, and the Roche pump from Accu-Chek. All can be seen at our Open Day on Saturday the 15th October at London Medical.

We’ll keep you up-to-date on our evaluation of the A6 Touchcare System, but if you have any questions in the meantime, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
