Professor Tufail is one of the leading ophthalmic surgeons in the UK. He is the clinical and research lead at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London for age-related macular degeneration. He has worked as a consultant here since 2002, and is an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London Institute of Ophthalmology.
Professor Tufail’s main subspecialty is medical retina disorders - with current areas of research including novel therapies for dry AMD, choroidal neovascularization, and diabetic retinopathy. Professor Tufail has published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal articles. But most notably, he was a co-principal investigator in the seminal ABC Trial examining bevacizumab for neovascular AMD. The ABC Trial became a cornerstone for anti-VEGF treatment protocols for wet-AMD therapy within the NHS.
Professor Tufail specialises in medical retina disorders, and cataract surgery in patients with retinal disorders.
